I love Gawker, and I know it's not for actual social commentary, but isn't generalizing and stereo-typing southerners just as bad as doing that to any other group? Why does "I hate southerners! It should have been burned down that one time!" meet with e-applause while in the same thread people condemn prejudice and blind hatred?
It's true that I should just say "oh, well, hypocrisy," and forget about it, but that's hard for me to do. I love the South. Most southerners that I've met in my 22 years of living there were lovely. Feh. It's frustrating that hating fat people and hating southerners are actually widely considered awesome, encouraged forms of hate. If you're a fat southerner, you're the last bastion of perfectly acceptable, baseless derision.
